Setting Up a Google Business Profile in Dubai: The Complete 2026 Guide

Most Google Business Profile problems are not caused by anything the owner did later. They are caused by decisions made in the first ten minutes of setup, then discovered months afterwards when the listing gets suspended or quietly fails to rank.

The frustrating part is that none of those decisions are difficult. They are just easy to get wrong quickly, and slow to unwind once the profile is live.

Here is the correct sequence for a UAE business, the three places Dubai specifically differs from the generic advice you will find elsewhere, and what to do in the first 48 hours after you are verified.

Before You Touch Google, Check Your Trade Licence

Your Business Name Is Already Decided

This is where most UAE suspensions begin, and it starts before anyone opens a browser.

Your profile name has to be the name on your trade licence, written exactly as it appears there. Google’s guidelines are explicit that your name should reflect your real-world name, the one used on your storefront, your stationery and by your customers.

What gets people suspended is the addition. “Al Noor Cleaning Services” becomes “Al Noor Cleaning Services Dubai | Best Deep Cleaning”. It feels like sensible optimisation. Google treats it as a guideline violation, and name issues sit among the most common suspension triggers.

No taglines. No city. No service keywords. No “Est. 2015”.

The Arabic Name Question

UAE trade licences carry both an Arabic and an English name, and the Arabic version has to be consistent with the English one in meaning and impression, usually a phonetic rendering rather than a literal translation.

Your primary profile name should be the version customers actually know you by, matching the licence. If you want the Arabic name visible too, add it through the additional language field rather than cramming both into one name string.

Claiming or Creating the Listing

Check Whether It Already Exists First

Search your business name and address on Maps before you create anything. Google generates listings automatically from other data sources, so yours may already exist without your knowledge.

If it does, claim it rather than creating a second one. Creating a duplicate is a genuine problem in its own right, and merging duplicate listings afterwards without losing your reviews is considerably more work than claiming once.

Your Primary Category Matters More Than You Think

Most owners pick whatever sounds broadest and move on. This is a mistake.

Your primary category is one of the strongest relevance signals you control for Maps visibility. Choose the most specific category that genuinely describes your main service, not the widest one. A business that mainly does deep cleaning should not sit under a general maintenance category because it feels safer.

Add secondary categories for genuine additional services. Do not add ten of them hoping to appear in more searches, because a profile claiming to do everything reads as less relevant for each individual thing.

The Address Problem Every UAE Business Hits

Direct answer: Google does not accept PO boxes, and a large share of UAE businesses try to use one anyway.

Why This Trips Up Dubai Specifically

Google does not accept post office boxes as a business address, full stop. That is a straightforward rule almost everywhere else and a genuine obstacle here, because so much UAE business correspondence runs through a PO box by default.

The address has to be the physical place your business operates from, and it should match what appears on your trade licence. Mismatches between the licence address and the profile address are a recurring suspension cause in this market.

Flexi-Desks, Coworking and Shared Towers

This is where UAE businesses have legitimate questions rather than shortcuts.

If you operate from a flexi-desk or a virtual office package, eligibility is genuinely conditional, and we covered whether a virtual office or flexi-desk address qualifies in detail. If you are in a shared office or a business tower with multiple companies at one address, the verification approach for shared offices and towers has its own requirements around signage and access.

If Customers Never Come to You

Some businesses should not display an address at all. Cleaners, movers, maintenance companies and anyone who works at the customer’s location fall into a different category entirely, and choosing between storefront and service area is a decision with real suspension consequences if you pick wrong.

Decide this before verification rather than after.

What Verification Will Actually Involve

Direct answer: expect video, and prepare for it before you start.

Video Is Now the Default

Video verification has become the default method for most new listings, replacing the postcard system that used to be standard. Depending on your category and location you may still be offered phone, email or a live video call, but plan for a recorded walkthrough.

Google reviews verification submissions within around five business days.

Get It Right the First Time

A failed verification attempt is not neutral. It puts you into a review cycle that is considerably harder to escape than passing cleanly would have been, and repeated failures can leave you stuck in a verification loop where Google keeps asking again.

Our first-try checklist for UAE video verification covers what a passing video contains, and the companion post on why Google rejects verification videos covers what gets them refused. Read one of those before you record, not after you fail.

The First 48 Hours After Verification

Complete Everything Before You Decorate

There is a strong temptation to upload twenty photos immediately. Resist it until the factual fields are done.

Opening hours, including how you handle Ramadan timings. Phone number that someone actually answers. Website. Services or products. A description that says what you do rather than how passionate you are about doing it.

A complete, plain profile outperforms a half-filled profile with attractive photos, because the fields are what Google reads to decide what you are relevant for.

Write the Description for a Customer, Not for Google

The description field is where UAE businesses most often waste their best opportunity. It fills up with phrases like “leading provider of world class solutions” that could describe any company in any industry.

Use it to answer the questions a customer actually has. Which areas do you cover. What do you charge for a callout. Do you work weekends. How quickly can you come out. Specifics are what make somebody choose you over the listing above yours, and keyword stuffing here does not move rankings the way people hope.

Then Photos, Then Reviews

Once the information is complete, add real photos of your actual premises and work. Stock imagery does nothing for you here.

Reviews come next, and they come from asking. This is the slowest part and the one that compounds, so start early even though nothing visible happens for weeks.

Expect a Quiet Period

A newly verified profile does not rank immediately, and this catches people out. If yours is verified but not appearing where you expect, that is normal at first, and our post on profiles that are verified but not showing on Maps explains when it stops being normal.

What Not to Do While You Wait

Do Not Create a Second Listing

If verification is slow or a submission gets rejected, the instinct is to start again with a fresh listing. This is the single most damaging thing you can do, and it turns a recoverable delay into a problem that is far harder to undo.

Wait, or appeal. Do not duplicate.

Do Not Change Core Details Immediately

Editing your name, address or primary category right after verification tends to push the profile back into review. Those three fields are the ones Google scrutinises most closely, so if something needs correcting, correct it once and then leave it alone.

Adding photos, hours and a description is fine. Rewriting your identity in week one is not.

Do Not Hand Over Full Ownership Casually

Plenty of UAE businesses give an agency or a marketing employee owner-level access at setup, then find themselves locked out when that relationship ends. Give managers manager access, keep ownership yourself, and if you are already in that position, our guide on recovering a profile from an ex-employee or old agency covers the process.

The Bottom Line

Setup is the only stage of Google Business Profile you have complete control over. Everything afterwards involves Google’s judgement, review queues and competitors. This part is just accuracy.

Use the trade licence name with nothing added. Use a real operating address, never a PO box. Pick a specific primary category. Decide storefront or service area before verifying, not after. Then complete every field before worrying about how the profile looks.
