Opening a New Business in Dubai? When to Create Your Google Profile

Most new businesses in Dubai create their Google listing on opening day, or a few weeks after, once the rush has settled. That is usually too late, because the customers searching for what you sell were looking before you opened.

Google does support listing a business before it opens, with specific rules about timing, visibility and verification. This post explains when to create the profile, what Google actually allows, the verification trap that catches new premises, and how to use the months before opening so you are findable from day one.

Google Lets You List Before You Open

The Rule

Google’s guidance on adding a business opening date says that if your business has not opened yet, you can create a Business Profile to let your community know when it will open at the given address.

You Appear 90 Days Early

This is the part most owners do not know. After you enter the opening date and verify the business, your profile shows up on Google 90 days before that date.

Three months of being findable before you serve a single customer. For a restaurant, clinic or showroom, that is a meaningful head start.

How Far Ahead You Can Set It

Google allows a date up to one year in the future, and only the year and month are required. So you can create the profile well before you know the exact day.

The Verification Trap

Creating Is Not the Same as Verifying

Creating a profile is easy. Verifying it is where new businesses run into trouble, because verification checks that the business genuinely exists at that address.

What Google Expects to See

Google’s guidelines for representing your business state that businesses showing their address should maintain permanent fixed signage of their business name at the address. For offices in co-working spaces, it expects clear signage, customers received during business hours, and the office staffed during those hours by your own staff.

A unit with the fit-out half finished, no sign on the door and nobody inside does not meet that standard. Google’s guide to verifying your business sets out the methods, and video verification is now the default, as we cover in our video verification checklist. The video has to show a real, identifiable business.

Time Verification, Not Creation

The practical sequence is to create the profile and set the opening date early, then schedule verification for the point when the premises genuinely look like a business: signage installed, space recognisable, someone there during the hours you have stated.

Attempting verification too early is the most common reason new businesses end up stuck in repeated attempts, a pattern we describe in stuck in a GBP verification loop.

Getting the Order Right

Trade Licence First

Your Google listing should match your trade licence: the same legal name, the same address. Sorting the licence before the listing avoids a name change later, which can be far more disruptive than it sounds. Google’s guidelines for representing your business expect the name to match the real-world name used on your storefront and stationery.

Then Address and Category

Decide whether customers will visit you, whether you travel to them, or both, before you create the profile. That decision shapes everything, and getting it wrong is a suspension risk we cover in storefront, service area or both. Your primary category matters more than most owners expect, as we explain in GBP categories.

Then Create, Set the Date, and Verify When Ready

Create the profile, set the opening month, and verify once the premises are genuinely presentable.

What to Do With Your 90 Days

Post Progress

Google notes that before opening you can publish posts, add photos of the location and write a description. Fit-out progress, the sign going up, the team arriving: these give people a reason to notice you before you open, and they show Google an active profile.

Complete Everything

Fill in every field before opening day: services, products, attributes, hours, contact details, description. A complete profile on day one beats one you finish three months later.

Get Your Website Consistent

Make sure your website, your listing and any directory entries all show the same name, address and phone number from the start. Starting consistent is far easier than fixing it later, which is why NAP consistency is worth getting right early.

The Review Window Nobody Plans For

Recently Opened Means No Reviews

Google’s guidance notes that once the business opens, the profile shows a “Recently opened” label for 90 days, and during that period people cannot suggest edits or post reviews and photos. It is there to prevent misinformation on a brand new listing.

Why That Matters

Many owners plan to collect reviews in their first weeks, exactly when enthusiasm is highest. If reviews cannot be posted yet, that enthusiasm is wasted.

Plan Around It

Serve your early customers well, keep a record of who was happy, and ask them once reviews open. Then build steadily using Google’s own review link or QR code, and never offer incentives in exchange for a review, because Google removes reviews posted for an incentive.

Mistakes That Cost New Businesses

Expecting Changes to Appear Instantly

Edits to a profile are reviewed before they show. Google says they usually take up to 10 minutes but can take up to 30 days. In the weeks before opening, when you are completing sections and adding photos, that delay is normal and not a sign anything is wrong.

Creating a Second Listing Because Nothing Appeared

If your profile is not showing yet, that may simply be the 90-day rule, or verification still pending. Creating a second listing to force it is the mistake that causes lasting damage, as we explain in the one mistake that makes a suspension permanent.

Using a Temporary Address

Listing a home address, a friend’s office or a virtual address while you wait for your real premises creates a verification problem now and an address change later. Google’s rules on virtual offices are strict, as we cover in virtual offices and flexi-desks.

Opening Hours That Are Not Real

Stating hours you are not actually staffed invites complaints and corrections from customers who turn up to a closed door.

Being Found Before You Open

What Actually Drives Early Visibility

Google says local results are based mainly on relevance, distance and prominence. A new business has no prominence yet, so relevance and distance are what you can influence: an accurate primary category, a complete profile and a correct address.

Do Not Expect Day-One Rankings

A brand new profile competing against established businesses with years of reviews will not top the map pack immediately. The 90-day head start is about being present and findable by name and by specific searches, not about outranking everyone at once.

A Simple Timeline

Three to Six Months Before Opening

Finalise the trade licence and premises. Decide your business model and primary category.

About Three Months Before

Create the profile, set the opening month, and verify once signage is up and the space is presentable. From here your profile can appear on Google.

The Final Weeks

Complete every section, add photos, post progress updates and make sure your website matches.

Opening Day Onwards

Switch to real opening hours, keep posting, and prepare your review process for when the Recently opened window ends. Photograph the finished space properly, because the pictures you rush on opening day tend to stay on the profile for years.

The Bottom Line

Google lets you list a business before it opens, shows the profile 90 days before your opening date, and accepts a date up to a year ahead. The limiting factor is not the listing. It is verification, which expects permanent signage, a staffed location and a business customers can genuinely reach.

Create early, verify when the premises are ready, use the 90 days to build visibility, and plan your reviews around the Recently opened window.
