Most Google Ads accounts in the UAE run all day, every day. That is the default setting, and in most accounts nobody actually chose it.
So a home services company pays for clicks at 3am that nobody answers. A B2B supplier pays for weekend clicks from buyers who will not contact anyone until Monday. And some businesses switch their ads off every evening without realising that is exactly when their customers sit down to search.
This post explains how ad scheduling works, the UAE working-week details that make it more nuanced here than in many markets, and how to set a schedule based on your own data rather than a guess.
What Ad Scheduling Does
Choosing When Ads Can Show
Google’s guide to ad scheduling explains that you can specify the hours or days when your ads show, and set bid adjustments to raise or lower bids at particular times. By default, campaigns are set to show ads “All day”.
The Time Zone Detail
Google’s setup guide notes that ad schedules are set based on your account’s time zone. If an account was set up with another country’s time zone, a schedule that looks right in the interface will run at the wrong local hours. Check this before changing anything.
What Smart Bidding Does With It
If you use Smart Bidding strategies such as Maximise Conversions or Target CPA, Google’s page on bid adjustments explains that your ads still strictly follow the days and times in your ad schedule, but manual time-based bid adjustments are not used, because Smart Bidding already optimises bids using performance data that includes time of day.
In other words, with Smart Bidding the schedule decides when you are eligible. The bidding decides how much each moment is worth.
The UAE Working Week Is Not One Pattern
Government Moved in 2022
The federal government adopted a four-and-a-half-day working week from 1 January 2022, with Saturday and Sunday as the weekend and Friday a half day. Most emirate governments adopted similar systems. Sharjah differs, with a four-day week and a three-day weekend that includes Friday.
Private Businesses Vary
Private companies set their own working patterns. Some follow the government week, some work Saturdays, and many customer-facing businesses are busiest exactly when offices are closed. Your customers’ week may not match your own office calendar.
Ramadan Changes Everything
Each year, the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation announces a reduction of private-sector working hours by two hours a day during Ramadan. Daily routines shift, evenings get busier, and search patterns change with them. A schedule built on normal months will be wrong for Ramadan. Update your Google Business Profile hours at the same time, as we explain in special and holiday hours for Ramadan and Eid.
The Two Questions That Should Decide Your Schedule
When Do Your Customers Search and Convert?
Not when they click. When they become enquiries. That requires conversion tracking that captures calls, forms and WhatsApp messages, which is the foundation we cover in conversion tracking for WhatsApp leads in the UAE. Without it, scheduling decisions are guesses.
When Can Someone Respond?
A call that rings out at 9pm is wasted. A form or WhatsApp message received at 9pm can be followed up at 8am. The right schedule depends on how leads arrive and how quickly your team can respond.
Reading Your Day and Hour Data
Where to Look
Google shows performance by day and hour on the ad schedule page. Look at clicks, cost and, most importantly, conversions for each day of the week and each hour of the day.
Give It Enough Data
A few weeks of data in a small account can mislead you. A single good Tuesday afternoon is not a pattern. Use at least a couple of months where possible, and compare cost per enquiry rather than raw clicks.
Look for Waste, Not Just Winners
The useful finding is often the hours that spend steadily and convert rarely. That is where a schedule or bid change saves real money. Cross-check with your search terms report, because some late-night clicks come from irrelevant searches rather than the wrong hour.
How Scheduling Differs by Business Type
Urgent and Home Services
Plumbers, locksmiths, AC repair and towing services get searched when something breaks, which can be any hour. If you genuinely offer an emergency service, late hours can be your most valuable. If you do not, running ads at 2am attracts people you will disappoint. Schedule around the service you actually provide, and staff the phone accordingly.
Consumer Services and Retail
Salons, clinics, gyms, tuition centres and restaurants are often researched in the evening and at weekends, when people plan their own time. Cutting those hours to save money frequently cuts the most motivated searchers.
B2B Companies
Decision makers often search during working days, but research also happens in the evening and on weekends. A sensible B2B pattern is to keep form and WhatsApp routes open at all hours while concentrating call-focused ads on the days and times your team answers.
Common Scheduling Mistakes
Matching Ads to Office Hours by Default
Office hours are when you work. They are not necessarily when customers search. For many consumer services, evenings and weekends are peak research time, and those are exactly the hours an office-hours schedule switches off.
Switching Off Hours That Generate Form Leads
If enquiries arrive overnight by form or WhatsApp and convert the next morning, those hours are working. Cutting them because nobody answers the phone at night throws away leads.
Running Call-Focused Ads When Nobody Answers
The opposite mistake. If your campaign mainly drives phone calls, showing call-heavy ads when nobody can pick up wastes the click and frustrates the caller.
Forgetting That Sharjah’s Week Is Different
If you target customers across the Northern Emirates, remember that Sharjah’s government works a four-day week with Friday off. Assumptions about Friday that hold in Dubai may not hold for every customer you reach.
Setting and Forgetting
Seasons, Ramadan, school holidays and summer travel all change behaviour. A schedule should be reviewed a few times a year, not set once. Put a reminder in the calendar before Ramadan and before the summer, because those are the two shifts most UAE accounts miss.
A Practical Way to Set It Up
Start With All Hours, Properly Tracked
If your account is new or tracking was unreliable, run all hours for long enough to collect clean conversion data before restricting anything.
Trim the Clearly Wasteful Hours
Remove or reduce only the time periods that consistently spend without producing enquiries, and that you cannot serve with a lead form or follow-up.
Separate Calls From Forms Where Needed
If calls and forms behave differently, consider separating them, so call-focused ads run when your phones are staffed while form and WhatsApp routes stay open longer.
Review After Every Change
Check the next few weeks. If total enquiries drop after cutting hours, the cut was wrong, and the hours should go back. Change one thing at a time, so you know which change caused the result. Our checklist on why more than half your Google Ads budget might be wasted covers other settings worth reviewing at the same time.
The Bottom Line
Ad scheduling decides when your ads are allowed to show. The default is all day, every day, which suits some businesses and quietly wastes money for others. In the UAE, a mixed working week, a Friday that means different things to different customers, and Ramadan’s shorter working hours all make a one-size schedule unlikely to be right.
Base your schedule on when customers convert and when your team can respond, using properly tracked data. Check your account’s time zone, remember that Smart Bidding ignores manual time-based adjustments, and review the schedule through the year.
If you want your schedule set from your own data rather than guesswork, our Google Search Ads management service can review your day and hour performance and set it up properly.
