Google Ads Advertiser Verification: What Google Asks For and What Happens If You Ignore It

There is an email from Google Ads that many business owners skim past. It says your account needs to complete advertiser verification, and it looks like routine admin.

It is not routine. Google says the deadline cannot be extended, and if you are not verified in time, your account is paused and every ad stops running. This post explains what advertiser verification is, what Google asks for, the name-matching detail that catches out many UAE businesses, and how to get it done without your ads going dark.

What Advertiser Verification Is

Google Confirming Who Is Behind the Ads

Advertiser verification is Google’s process for confirming the identity of the business or person running a Google Ads account. Google’s advertiser verification policy states that all advertisers will eventually be required to complete it, as part of its push for more transparency in advertising.

Why Google Does It

Verified information appears in ad disclosures and the Ads Transparency Center, where anyone can see who is behind an ad. It is designed to make it harder for scammers to hide, which ultimately helps legitimate businesses too.

Why Your Account Was Selected

Google may ask an account to verify for different reasons, including the industry it advertises in, patterns it wants to check, or as part of an appeal. Being asked is not an accusation. It is increasingly just part of having an account.

What Google Asks For

Tasks for an Organisation

For businesses, Google’s page on tasks required for advertiser verification lists steps that can include entering your organisation’s details, optionally providing a D-U-N-S number, submitting your organisation’s documents, and confirming your affiliation with a six-digit code sent by SMS or to an organisation email.

Documents

For a UAE business, the obvious document is the trade licence, alongside any other official registration documents Google requests. Have clear, current, complete copies ready before you start.

The Detail That Trips Up UAE Businesses

Google is specific about one requirement: the name and location on your payments profile must exactly match your legal name and location on the documents you submit.

That sounds simple. In practice it is one of the most common stumbling blocks, because many accounts were set up quickly, years ago, by whoever was available. Common mismatches include:

  • A shortened or trading name instead of the full legal name on the licence.
  • Missing “LLC”, “FZE” or “FZ-LLC” at the end of the name.
  • An old address from before the business moved.
  • A payments profile created in the name of an agency, a former employee or the owner personally rather than the company.

Compare the payments profile name with your trade licence letter by letter before you submit anything.

The Deadline You Cannot Miss

No Extensions

Google’s page on verification timelines is blunt: the deadline cannot be extended. You need to get verified by the deadline, or your account will be paused.

Review Takes Time

Google says review can take up to five business days, and in rare cases up to 30 days. Submitting in the final week is how accounts get paused while waiting for a decision.

What Pausing Means

A paused account stops serving ads, and Google states you can only unpause it once you get verified. Its page on account pausing explains the process. Pausing is not the same as a suspension, but for a business that relies on Google for enquiries, the effect on the phone is the same.

If an Agency Runs Your Account

Who Completes Verification

Google allows an agency to either send the verification task to the client or complete it on the client’s behalf, using the client’s payments profile. Either way, it is your business being verified, with your documents and your legal name.

Make Sure the Account Is Really Yours

If verification reveals that your payments profile is in your agency’s name, take that as a prompt to fix ownership properly. Your business should own its account and payments profile, with the agency given access to manage it.

How to Get It Done Without Disruption

1. Check the Deadline the Day the Email Arrives

Put it in a calendar with a reminder two weeks before. Do not leave it in an inbox.

2. Fix the Payments Profile First

Make sure the payments profile shows your full legal name and correct address exactly as they appear on your trade licence. Changes to names or ownership have their own process, covered in Google’s guidance on changing name or ownership.

3. Gather Your Documents

Have a current trade licence and any other requested documents ready as clear scans, with every page and nothing cut off.

4. Make Sure the Code Can Reach You

The affiliation code is sent to a phone number or organisation email. Confirm whoever completes the task can receive it on the day.

5. Submit Early, Then Check Back

Submit well before the deadline, then check the account until the status changes. If Google asks for something else, respond immediately.

Common Reasons Verification Fails

Documents That Do Not Match

Different names, an outdated licence, or an address that does not match the payments profile.

Incomplete or Unclear Copies

Cropped scans, missing pages or unreadable photos slow the review down or cause rejection.

The Wrong Party Verifying

An agency verifying itself instead of the client, or a personal profile being used for a company account.

What Changes After You Are Verified

Your Name Appears With Your Ads

Once verified, your business name can be shown in ad disclosures and in the Ads Transparency Center. Customers who wonder who is behind an ad can see that it is genuinely you. For a legitimate business, that is a quiet trust signal rather than a burden.

Anyone Can Look You Up

The same transparency works in both directions. The Ads Transparency Center lets anyone look up the ads a verified advertiser is running, including your competitors. It is worth knowing that your ads are no longer anonymous, and worth using the same tool to see what others in your market are running.

Be Ready Before the Email Arrives

A Short Checklist to Keep on File

You do not have to wait for Google to ask. Keeping these in order means verification, whenever it comes, takes minutes rather than weeks:

  • A current, complete scan of your trade licence, updated every time it is renewed.
  • A payments profile whose name and address match that licence exactly.
  • At least one administrator on the account who works for your business, not only an agency.
  • A phone number or organisation email that can receive the verification code.
  • A note of who is responsible for responding to Google Ads policy emails.

Update After Every Change

If the business moves, renews its licence under a slightly different name, or changes legal structure, update the payments profile at the same time. Most failed verifications trace back to a change that happened years earlier and was never reflected in the account.

Verification Is Not the Same as Suspension

A pause for incomplete verification is lifted once you are verified. A suspension is a different, more serious process with its own causes and appeals, which we covered in Google Ads account suspended. Ignoring verification requests, however, is one way to make the account’s situation much harder to fix.

And if you are wondering whether this is the same as verifying your Google Business Profile, it is not. Map listing verification is a separate process for a separate product, which we explain in our GBP video verification checklist.

The Bottom Line

Advertiser verification is Google confirming who is behind your ads. It is becoming mandatory for everyone, the deadline cannot be extended, and an unverified account is paused until verification is complete.

The most common stumbling block is simple: your payments profile name and location must exactly match your legal documents. Fix that first, gather your trade licence and documents, make sure the verification code can reach you, and submit early.

If you would rather have it handled for you, our Google Search Ads management service can check your account, correct the payments profile and complete verification with you before the deadline.

Verification takes an afternoon. A paused account during your busiest month takes a lot longer to recover from.
